Wockhardt Hospital on Wednesday opened a cancer care centre in its existing super-specialty set-up at Mulund to provide expert care to cancer patients.
According to the doctors, the cancer care services available in the city are good but centered only in south and central Mumbai. So to cater to suburban areas, the centre was set up in Mulund.
The new centre will be run by a team of experts, which includes oncologists, oncosurgeons, radiotherapists and hemato-oncologists, who will be supported by diagnostic, nursing and rehabilitation teams.
The hospital currently has 40 beds, which will be soon increased to 150.
Wockhardt Hospital Chief Executive Officer Vishal Bali said: "The centre will not only offer medical and surgical treatment to cancer patients, but also rehabilitation services."
In India, there are 15 to 20 lakh people suffering from cancer, of whom 15,000 to 20,000 are from Mumbai.
