Comprehensive Centre for Joint Replacement now at
Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagarbhavi

Bangalore, September 13, 2008. Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagarbhavi today, launched the state-of-the-art Centre for Joint Replacement, an extended service from Wockhardt Hospitals, Bannerghatta Road, to provide complete solution for joint problems. Wockhardt Centre for Joint Replacement (CJR) at Nagarbhavi will offer comprehensive service to all the patients and provides diagnosis, management and rehabilitation under one roof at an affordable cost. The CJR at Nagarbhavi is an extended service of Wockhardt Hospitals, Bone and Joint care at Bannerghatta Road.

The Centre for Joint Replacement will offer conservative non surgical treatment, surgical treatment and post surgery rehabilitation to the patients at a special package. The Centre has the backing of a team of experts who are trained in the latest techniques in diagnostic as well as surgery. CJR is also equipped with advanced technology, which very few hospitals in India have and provides consultation and treatment for all general orthopaedic ailments like upper limb surgery, complex shoulder surgery, hand surgery, hip replacement (conventional and resurfacing), revision hip replacement, knee replacement, revision knee replacement, complex knee ligament reconstruction, surgery for degenerative conditions of the knee, foot and ankle surgery and paediatric orthopaedics and sports medicine.

According to Dr. Sanjay Pai, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals "the main objective of extending Centre for Joint Replacement to our Nagarbhavi Hospital is to provide the best care available to the people living this side of the Bangalore city. The Centre provides expert evaluation of joint problems by our dedicated team of experienced Surgeons, Rheumatologist, Physicians and Physiotherapist. There is a complete diagnostic facility including dynamic digital X-rays, Spiral CT scanning, MRI and Electrophysiology unit all under one roof".

Pre Operative Care
CJR is equipped with all latest technologies for pre operative care. Facilities are available for a complete pre-anaesthetic work-up like ECG, Chest Xray, urine tests, haematology and biochemistry blood tests. Cross match of blood is routine also as a high percentage of patients receive a blood transfusion. Pre-operative planning requires accurate Xrays of the affected joint. The implant design is selected and the size matched to the xray images (a process known as templating).

Post Operative Rehabilitation Centre

Wockhardt's Rehabilitation Centre is equipped with most modern technologies in rehabilitation like Gate Analysis, Bio Feedback Systems, Muscle Balance, Pilates Programme (Kundalini in yoga) and a full-fledged team of Physiotherapist, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Wellness Coaches (yoga experts, nutritionist etc).

"Early mobilisation of the patient is thought to be the key to reducing the chances of complications such as venous thromboembolism and Pneumonia. Modern practice is to mobilize patients as soon as possible and ambulate with walking aids when tolerated. Depending on the joint involved and the pre-op status of the patient the time of hospitalization varies from 1 day to 2 weeks with the average being 4-7 days in most regions." Dr. Pai added

Wockhardt provides complete rehabilitation to the patient after surgery. Experts at rehabilitation centre work on posture correction, stability, balance exercises, etc to get them back to their normal life. Throughout the patient's hospital stay, therapists set goals for the patient each day, based on the type of surgery performed. Patients also are educated regarding their role in achieving a successful recovery. The patient's recovery is enhanced by a seamless integration of care and education.
