My problems with my left leg began in the spring or summer of 2004. I had pain in my left shin. Over several years the symptoms increased and became severe enough that I had back surgery in April 2006. This did not resolve my problems. The location and character of the pain in my left leg changed and I began to suspect that I might have a different problem. I was diagnosed with arthritis in my left hip August 2006 and told I needed hip replacement.

We do not have health insurance and we had seen a TV program about outsourcing health care to Asia. One of the patients had had hip resurfacing done. So we began to check into the idea. After gathering information and investigating various hospitals, doctors and procedures we found Dr Malhan in Mumbai. Both he and my US doctor agreed that I should have my hip fixed before I tried to do anything more about my back. However, Dr Malhan assured me that he would be able to resurface my hip instead of doing a replacement.

I had my left hip resurfaced November 7, 2006 by Dr Malhan. While it is possible I may still have some back problems, my hip and thigh are feeling much better. I still have a long way to go in my rehab due to loss of range of motion and weakness that occurred prior to surgery. Dr Malhan and the nursing staff were great. As a physical therapist I especially appreciated the work done by the therapists.
